Inspection Lens Spectral Matching: Lessons from Excelitas at VISION 2026
OPTICS · INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
Excelitas’s VISION 2026 demonstration announcement brings a practical lens-buying issue into focus: the detector’s spectral response and the lens’s specified imaging band must be reviewed separately.

What the official announcement describes
Excelitas scheduled inspection demonstrations for VISION on 6–8 October. Its wafer-inspection setup pairs a pco.edge 1.3 SWIR camera with a LINOS inspec.x L 5.6/105 VIS–NIR lens. The release gives the lens a 400–1150 nm imaging range and the camera a 300–1700 nm sensitivity range.
The same announcement describes an MWIR demonstration using signal up-conversion. That is a separate architecture, not a claim that the VIS–NIR lens directly images the whole MWIR band. This article analyses the announced setup and does not report independently observed booth performance.

Specify the usable system band
When sourcing custom optical lenses, request transmission, focal shift and image-quality data across the wavelengths the inspection actually uses. Detector sensitivity alone does not establish usable imaging performance throughout its band.
Define illumination, sample material, working distance and required feature size before comparing optics. For a silicon-wafer task, test representative samples at the selected wavelengths and report contrast under the agreed illumination and exposure.
Include every optical surface
Specify optical coatings and protective windows as part of the assembled path. Record angle of incidence and any filters so a component-level transmission result is not mistaken for whole-system performance.
These are TUOLAN sourcing recommendations. They do not establish availability of Excelitas products through TUOLAN or compatibility of unrelated catalog components.
Buyer RFQ checklist
- Identify the inspection wavelength and illumination bandwidth.
- Compare lens MTF and focal shift over the detector band actually used.
- Test wafer contrast with the agreed sample, exposure and optical windows.
