200G EML Supply Race for 1.6T Optics: Who Ships in 2026

The 1.6T transceiver on a data centre roadmap is only as real as the 200G laser inside it. Four Chinese suppliers are racing to supply that laser, and their published timelines disagree with each other by roughly a year.

An electro-absorption modulated laser, or EML, is the light source that a high-speed transceiver modulates. Moving from 100G to 200G per lane is what makes 1.6T modules possible, and the supplier that can ship a qualified 200G EML at volume sets the pace for everyone downstream. As of September 2026 the published status of the main contenders is unusually far apart.

Where each supplier actually stands

  • Source Photonics (索尔思光电) is the only one shipping. It is reported as the only domestic supplier to have publicly reached volume production of a 200G EML with external supply, and its 1.6T DR8 and 2×FR4 OSFP modules built on that chip have entered small-batch supply. Its 100G EML cumulative shipments passed 10 million units during 2025.
  • Its share is growing but still small. Global optical chip market share moved from 1.9% in 2024 to 4.4% in the first half of 2025, placing it seventh worldwide. The company has raised total investment in its Changzhou and related optical chip and module expansion to USD 1.7 billion.
  • Everbright Photonics (长光华芯) is at customer sampling. Its 200G EML was shown publicly at the Shenzhen optical expo in September 2026 and is in validation with leading customers, with the company guiding to mass production in Q4 2026. Its first-half 2026 optical communications revenue reached RMB 166 million, more than 42% of total revenue and now its largest single revenue source.
  • Sanan Optoelectronics (三安光电) has finished reliability testing and is at the customer sampling stage for mid- and long-reach backbone applications. Its optical chip capacity stands at 2,750 wafers per month, with a plan to lift this to 4,500 wafers per month.
  • Yuanjie Technology (源杰科技) is roughly 9 to 12 months behind. Its 200G EML has completed R&D tape-out with mass production expected around the end of 2026, against a RMB 4.268 billion semiconductor industrial park whose capacity is scheduled to release progressively from 2027.
  • Two more lines are being built. Shijia Photons (仕佳光子) is investing RMB 1.265 billion in a high-speed optical chip line in Hebi, Henan, covering 200G-class capacity and still under construction. Accelink (光迅科技) showed a per-channel 400G optical device at customer sampling plus a 6.4T silicon photonics NPO engine, without publishing a 200G EML date.

Reported yield rates, unit prices and gross margins for 200G EML across these suppliers have not been disclosed, and one widely circulated claim of approximately 40% global share for a single supplier conflicts with the 4.4% figure above and is not used here.

What this means when you buy transceivers or laser sources

  • Ask which EML generation your module actually carries. A 1.6T module and a 200G EML are not the same commitment. Vendors with 100G EML volume can offer 1.6T-class form factors on a different internal generation, and only one of the two suppliers above is shipping a 200G device externally today.
  • Treat “Q4 2026 mass production” as the start of qualification, not of supply. A public timeline is a claim about a process, not a commitment about your order. The realistic date for qualified parts at your specification is later than the headline.
  • Two supply routes exist and they price differently. Buying a whole module bundles the laser, the DSP and the packaging yield into one number. Buying laser chips separately exposes you to the chip queue but lets you control the packaging partner. Decide which risk you would rather carry.
  • Reliability data is the gate that matters. One of the four suppliers has completed reliability testing and is still only sampling. That gap between a working device and a qualified device is where most of the calendar time sits.
  • Plan 2027 volumes around 2027 capacity. With a new RMB 4.268 billion park releasing capacity progressively from 2027 and a Hebi line still under construction, the supply picture for the second half of 2027 looks different from the first half of 2026. Contracts that assume today’s scarcity will persist should be reviewed.

Sources and disclosure

Sources: industry analysis published via ZAKER News on 14 September 2026 comparing 200G EML progress at Source Photonics and Everbright Photonics and covering the published status of Sanan Optoelectronics, Yuanjie Technology, Shijia Photons and Accelink; company disclosures referenced within that analysis. Market share, shipment volume, revenue, investment and capacity figures are reproduced as the cited source states them and have not been independently audited by us. Yield, pricing and gross margin data for 200G EML have not been publicly disclosed and are therefore not stated. A widely circulated figure of approximately 40% global market share for one supplier conflicts with the cited 4.4% figure and has been excluded.
