Optical Transceivers, AOC & DAC

Source 10G SFP+, 25G SFP28, 40G QSFP+ and 100G QSFP28 optical transceivers, with active optical cables and direct-attach copper cable options for compatible network equipment.

TUOLAN TRADE coordinates specification review and supplier quotations. Share the equipment at both ends, link standard, distance and quantity so the proposed part can be checked against your application.

25G SFP28 DWDM optical transceiver, BT-SFP28-D10 reference unit
25G SFP28 DWDM reference image from the supplier’s 2023 brochure. The pictured unit is not an illustration of every model below.
Reference catalog, not a stock list. Product directions are based on Shenzhen BTON Communication Co., Ltd. documentation supplied to us, including its 2023 Chinese brochure, and public technical references. Availability, exact specifications, host compatibility, compliance documents and delivery are confirmed for each quotation.

Select by interface and application

Four main optical transceiver families

A matching physical port is only the first check. The host must support the module’s rate, optical link standard, electrical interface, firmware requirements and operating conditions.

10 Gigabit Ethernet

10G SFP+ Optical Transceivers

Short-reach, long-reach and extended-reach directions for access, enterprise and data-center links. The reference range also includes single-fiber BiDi and CWDM/DWDM variants.

Specify: SR/LR or exact variant, duplex versus single fiber, wavelength pair, distance, temperature grade and host equipment.

25 Gigabit Ethernet

25G SFP28 Optical Transceivers

A single-lane 25G electrical interface for compatible server and switch ports. The supplier catalog includes SR, LR, ER, BiDi and wavelength-multiplexing directions.

Specify: the exact 25G part, fiber grade, FEC requirements, link budget and host support. Do not treat a 25G SFP28 module as a 100G module.

40 Gigabit Ethernet

40G QSFP+ Optical Transceivers

Parallel-fiber SR4 and single-mode wavelength-multiplexed directions use different optical connections. QSFP+ electrical lanes do not make every optical variant suitable for breakout.

Specify: SR4/LR4 or exact variant, MPO versus duplex LC, fiber arrangement and any required breakout mode.

100 Gigabit Ethernet

100G QSFP28 Optical Transceivers

The brochure lists SR4, CWDM4, PSM4, LR4 and extended-reach directions. Optical lane arrangement, receiver requirements and supported reach differ between variants.

Specify: the exact interface standard, connector, fiber, FEC/host conditions, power budget and acceptance test.

Reference model and parameter comparison

The rows below transcribe selected entries from the supplier’s 2023 brochure (printed pages 01–04). They are starting points for an RFQ, not TUOLAN test results or guaranteed limits. Request a current, revision-controlled datasheet before choosing a part.

Selected brochure values; Tx = transmit, Rx = receive. Optical power values are in dBm.
Reference model Rate / package Listed reach Optical connector Listed Tx source Tx power Rx sensitivity
BT-SFP+-SR 10G / SFP+ 300 m Duplex LC 850 nm VCSEL −6 to −1 ≤ −11.1
BT-SFP+-LR 10G / SFP+ 10 km Duplex LC 1310 nm DFB −6 to −1 ≤ −12.6
BT-SFP28-LR 25G / SFP28 10 km Confirm current datasheet 1310 nm DFB −3.8 to 3.0 ≤ −13.0
BT-SFP28-ER 25G / SFP28 40 km Confirm current datasheet 1310 nm EML −3.0 to 6.0 ≤ −19.0
BT-QSFP-SR4 40G / QSFP+ 100 m MPO-12 850 nm VCSEL −7.6 to 2.4 ≤ −11.1
BT-QSFP-LR4 40G / QSFP+ 10 km Duplex LC CWDM DFB −7.0 to 2.3 ≤ −11.5
BT-QSFP28-SR4 100G / QSFP28 100 m MPO-12 850 nm VCSEL −8.4 to 2.4 ≤ −9.2
BT-QSFP28-LR4 100G / QSFP28 10 km Duplex LC 1294–1310 nm LWDM DML, as listed −4.3 to 4.5 ≤ −8.6

Short-reach figures depend on the multimode fiber grade and test conditions. Long-reach designs require a complete link budget, including connector/splice losses and receiver overload limits. The brochure does not fully specify measurement conditions or whether every multi-lane power figure is per lane; those details must be resolved in the current datasheet.

Specifications needing clarification: the brochure and online 25G SR listing do not give the same reach, so no 25G SR reach is asserted here. Generic brochure statements about management interfaces, 25G lane counts and 100G applications are not reused as product specifications.

Complete interconnect assemblies

AOC active optical cables and DAC direct-attach copper cables

AOC carries the link over optical fiber with integrated electronics at both ends. DAC uses copper conductors. Neither should be confused with a separate optical transceiver plus a detachable fiber patch cord.

AOC — Active Optical Cable

The brochure lists SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+ and QSFP28 assemblies, including 40G-to-4×10G and 100G-to-4×25G breakout directions. Confirm both host endpoints, the required length, breakout support, routing and bend requirements.

The AOC length table and general description disagree. Length capability is therefore left to the selected model’s current datasheet and quotation; a blanket 300 m capability is not advertised.

DAC — Direct-Attach Copper Cable

The brochure lists 10G, 25G, 40G and 100G direct links and breakout assemblies, with a reference length range of 0.5–7 m. This is a catalog range, not a guarantee that every host, gauge and rate supports every length.

Specify active versus passive construction where applicable, cable gauge, connector coding, equipment at both ends, power limits and the exact length.

Connection direction Cable families in the brochure Before ordering
10G SFP+ ↔ SFP+ AOC / DAC Host coding, cable length and supported rate
25G SFP28 ↔ SFP28 AOC / DAC Host support, FEC setting and length
40G QSFP+ ↔ QSFP+ AOC / DAC Native 40G mode and equipment compatibility
40G QSFP+ ↔ 4×10G SFP+ Breakout AOC / DAC Switch breakout support and branch mapping
100G QSFP28 ↔ QSFP28 AOC / DAC, brochure-listed Current model availability, FEC, coding and length
100G QSFP28 ↔ 4×25G SFP28 Breakout AOC / DAC, brochure-listed Supported breakout configuration at all endpoints

Additional application-specific directions

Fibre Channel, BiDi, WDM and access-network modules

The broader brochure also covers 16G/32G Fibre Channel, 155M–2.67G SFP, CSFP, EPON/GPON and legacy XFP, X2/XENPAK and 1×9 modules. These are separate protocol or equipment categories, not interchangeable Ethernet upgrades.

  • BiDi: match complementary transmit/receive wavelengths at the two ends.
  • CWDM / DWDM: specify the wavelength or ITU channel, mux/demux path and loss budget.
  • Fibre Channel: identify the storage-network rate and host support, rather than substituting an Ethernet module.
  • PON: distinguish OLT from ONU/ONT roles, wavelength plan, optical class and system requirements.
  • RJ45 copper modules: these belong to electrical connectivity, not optical transceivers.
