Custom Achromatic Doublets
Specify a custom achromatic doublet when your imaging or collimation system needs chromatic correction across more than one wavelength. TUOLAN TRADE reviews the glass pair, optical prescription, assembly method and inspection requirements with selected manufacturing partners.
Start with the wavelength pair and optical prescription
A doublet combines two elements whose optical powers and dispersions are selected together. The design wavelengths and residual color correction matter as much as the nominal focal length. Send the full wavelength range and any spectral weighting used in your optical model.
For an existing design, identify each glass grade, both element thicknesses, all radii and the interface geometry. If an alternative glass is acceptable, define how it will be assessed against the original optical performance. A similar refractive index alone does not establish interchangeability.
Cemented assembly or an air-spaced group?
A cemented doublet requires an adhesive and interface specification matched to wavelength, temperature and service conditions. If your design is air-spaced, include the gap, spacer and mounting datums; the assembled optical behavior and inspection scope differ. State which arrangement your drawing requires.
Applications and system inputs
- Broadband imaging and relay optics
- Multi-wavelength source collimation
- Instrument objectives and analytical optics
Share the operating conditions and required optical performance for your application. Material, geometry and inspection scope are reviewed together before quotation.
Achromatic Doublets specification checklist
The table identifies the inputs needed to review this lens family. The approved drawing and quotation define the supplied configuration, tolerances and documentation.
| Specification | Information for your drawing or RFQ |
|---|---|
| Design wavelengths | Wavelength pair, full band and spectral weighting |
| Optical prescription | Element radii, thicknesses, focal length and glass grades |
| Assembly | Cemented interface or controlled air gap; adhesive constraints |
| Alignment | Element decenter, wedge and assembled optical axis |
| Coating | Exposed surfaces, passband, reflectance target and incidence angle |
| Acceptance | Transmitted wavefront or imaging test, centration and documentation |
Send a complete lens RFQ
- Attach the controlled optical drawing or system layout, including revision and units.
- State the wavelength, substrate grade, coating and operating environment.
- Identify optical and mechanical acceptance limits and required test records.
- Provide prototype quantity, expected production demand and requested delivery date.
Include the destination market, packaging requirements and whether you need loose elements, a matched set or a mounted assembly. If a parameter is still open, identify it as a design-review item.
Send the drawing and application inputs so the selected manufacturing route can be reviewed. Material availability, MOQ, lead time and achievable tolerances are confirmed for your project.
Achromatic Doublets FAQ
Can I request an achromatic doublet by focal length alone?
Add the aperture, wavelength range, conjugates, image-quality target and packaging limits. A focal-length value alone does not define a doublet.
Can a glass pair be substituted?
Any substitution needs optical review and written approval. Share the allowed change in chromatic correction, focal length and thermal behavior.
