Custom Fused Silica Lenses
Review fused silica as the substrate for a custom spherical, cylindrical or polished aspheric lens. For UV and laser projects, define the material grade, operating band and inspection evidence alongside the lens geometry.
Specify the fused-silica grade before fixing the coating
Fused silica is a material choice rather than a single lens shape. State the supplier grade or required material characteristics, operating wavelengths and transmission evidence needed for acceptance. Do not treat fused silica and crystalline quartz as interchangeable drawing descriptions.
For a laser optic, include wavelength, beam diameter, continuous or pulsed operation, power or pulse energy, pulse duration and repetition rate as applicable. Any requested damage-threshold evidence must match the test conditions. A transmission target alone does not define suitability for the laser load.
Choose the geometry for the optical task
Select a plano-convex or other spherical form for the required conjugates, a cylindrical form for one-axis beam control, or a polished asphere when the prescription requires its additional surface definition. Material selection and lens form should be evaluated separately, then specified together.
Applications and system inputs
- UV illumination and analytical optical paths
- Laser focusing and collimation
- One-axis beam shaping with cylindrical elements
Share the operating conditions and required optical performance for your application. Material, geometry and inspection scope are reviewed together before quotation.
Fused Silica Lenses specification checklist
The table identifies the inputs needed to review this lens family. The approved drawing and quotation define the supplied configuration, tolerances and documentation.
| Specification | Information for your drawing or RFQ |
|---|---|
| Material | Fused-silica grade, permitted alternatives and traceability |
| Spectral requirement | Operating band and material or coated-part transmission evidence |
| Geometry | Spherical radii, cylinder prescription or asphere surface definition |
| Laser conditions | Beam size, CW / pulsed operation and relevant load data |
| Surface / coating | Figure, roughness, cleanliness, coating band and test conditions |
| Documentation | Material record and agreed optical / dimensional inspection |
Send a complete lens RFQ
- Attach the controlled optical drawing or system layout, including revision and units.
- State the wavelength, substrate grade, coating and operating environment.
- Identify optical and mechanical acceptance limits and required test records.
- Provide prototype quantity, expected production demand and requested delivery date.
Include the destination market, packaging requirements and whether you need loose elements, a matched set or a mounted assembly. If a parameter is still open, identify it as a design-review item.
Send the drawing and application inputs so the selected manufacturing route can be reviewed. Material availability, MOQ, lead time and achievable tolerances are confirmed for your project.
Fused Silica Lenses FAQ
Can fused silica be used for every UV or IR wavelength?
Review the actual material grade and transmission across the required band. Specify the band rather than assuming suitability from the material name.
Can I request an uncoated lens?
State uncoated surfaces explicitly and define the required transmission and surface inspection. Coating requirements are evaluated separately.
