Drawing-based optical sourcing
Custom Positive Cylindrical Lenses
Specify positive cylindrical lenses when your optical system needs focusing in one axis. Plano-convex cylindrical and other drawing-defined positive forms are reviewed for laser lines, detector illumination and beam-shaping arrangements.
Define the powered axis and line geometry together
Mark the powered and non-powered axes on the drawing, then give the focal length at the operating wavelength. Include the input beam dimensions in both axes, the intended line length and width, and the distance to the target plane.
The usable aperture and cylinder-axis orientation affect how the element is installed. For a rectangular part, provide length, width, thickness, bevels and the mounting datum used to control rotation. State the permitted axis-orientation error independently from surface quality.
Line focusing or an anamorphic pair?
A positive cylinder focuses in its powered axis. If the goal is a different beam aspect ratio with a controlled output divergence, supply the complete two-element layout, spacings and beam targets. This lets a matched pair be evaluated instead of selecting each element independently.
Applications and system inputs
- Laser-line focusing
- Detector and line-scan illumination
- Positive elements in anamorphic beam-shaping pairs
Share the operating conditions and required optical performance for your application. Material, geometry and inspection scope are reviewed together before quotation.
Positive Cylindrical Lenses specification checklist
The table identifies the inputs needed to review this lens family. The approved drawing and quotation define the supplied configuration, tolerances and documentation.
| Specification | Information for your drawing or RFQ |
|---|---|
| Optical prescription | Positive powered-axis EFL or radius and reference wavelength |
| Beam / line target | Input dimensions, target line dimensions and working distance |
| Mechanical outline | Length, width, center thickness, bevels and datums |
| Axis control | Powered-axis marking, orientation tolerance and wedge |
| Substrate / coating | Glass or fused silica; required band and incidence conditions |
| Inspection | Powered-axis form, non-powered-axis flatness and acceptance method |
Send a complete lens RFQ
- Attach the controlled optical drawing or system layout, including revision and units.
- State the wavelength, substrate grade, coating and operating environment.
- Identify optical and mechanical acceptance limits and required test records.
- Provide prototype quantity, expected production demand and requested delivery date.
Include the destination market, packaging requirements and whether you need loose elements, a matched set or a mounted assembly. If a parameter is still open, identify it as a design-review item.
Send the drawing and application inputs so the selected manufacturing route can be reviewed. Material availability, MOQ, lead time and achievable tolerances are confirmed for your project.
Positive Cylindrical Lenses FAQ
Will a cylindrical lens focus to a point?
It provides power mainly in one axis. Define the full optical system if a point focus or a specific two-axis beam profile is required.
How should I specify the line width?
Include wavelength, input beam, working distance and the measurement definition at the target. A focal-length value alone does not establish line width.
