Selection overview

Choose optical components by the task they perform

Choose an optical family from the task it performs, then specify wavelength, material, geometry, interface and acceptance criteria. A component name is a starting point; a complete imaging assembly also requires detector or viewing-system information.

Optical task Product route Useful RFQ inputs
Transmit light through a protective interface Optical windows Wavelength, substrate, clear aperture, thickness, flatness, wedge and coating
Reflect or redirect a beam Optical mirrors / Optical prisms Beam path, angle of incidence, wavelength, polarization, angular or surface tolerances
Focus or collimate in two axes Spherical lenses / Aspheric lenses Focal length, aperture, conjugates, wavelength, geometry and aberration requirements
Shape a beam in one axis Cylindrical lenses Powered axis, focal length, aperture, orientation and alignment datums
Control transmission or reflection at a surface Optical coatings Substrate, wavelength band, incidence angle, polarization and target spectral curve
Form a visible or VIS–NIR image; support direct viewing Objectives and eyepieces Detector or display, field of view, image circle or eye relief, focus and interface
Form an MWIR or LWIR thermal image Infrared lens assemblies Band, detector, pixel pitch, F/#, field of view, focus architecture and environment

Individual element or complete lens assembly?

An individual lens, window, mirror or prism is specified as a component in your optical system. A complete objective must be reviewed together with its detector, spectral response, field of view and mechanical interface. An eyepiece instead requires viewing or display inputs such as eye relief, exit pupil and diopter adjustment.

For a build-to-print inquiry, send the revision-controlled drawing and identify critical inspection items. For a requirement-led inquiry, describe the application and measurable targets so that design responsibility and the proposed supply scope can be agreed.

Choose the right optics for your requirement

Start with the optical function and spectral band, then confirm the material, coating, mechanical interface and acceptance method.

Build-to-print or design support

Start with a drawing or a measurable optical requirement.

  • Material, spectral band and coating curve
  • Dimensions, clear aperture and mechanical datums
  • Surface figure, quality, centration or angular tolerance
  • Environment, inspection method and required report
  • Prototype quantity, annual demand and target schedule
